Structure: The Association was launched as “SPM, Sociedade Portuguesa de Marketing”, in 1967. In the year 2000 it was renamed as “APPM, Associação Portuguesa dos Profissionais de Marketing”. It is a not-for profit association.
APPM has now 5 700 members, mostly individuals and also some corporate members, among the leading companies operating in Portugal.
Staff: 3, plus voluntaries and trainees. Some services are outsourced, as information systems, accountancy, webmastering
>> Overview of the main activities
Two main public events are promoted annually, namely “Portugal Marketing Awards”, in March, a national event with a large impact on the business. Seventeen sectorial categories are awarded each year, such as “The Marketeer of the year”, “The Young Marketeer of the Year” and “Lifetime Achievement Award”; The National Week of Marketing” takes place in November, with more than twenty events covering all the ountry. The main ones are “The Portuguese Marketing Congress”, “The Portuguese Marketing Expo” and “The Marketing and Communication Students Congress”. APPM also runs a national contest among students from Portuguese universities, covering direct marketing. Other seminars and conferences are ran on topic issues, such as the “Wake-up with marketing”, a breakfast concept. We publish, bi-annually, the book “Guide to marketing”, some other editions on specific marketing issues and a monthly newsletter and e-newsletters. APPM is active in participating, through interviews and opinion-making, in the leading business and marketing Portuguese magazines, and plays a role as a consultant institution to the national authorities, in the field of marketing education and the basis of the marketing profession. APPM will be launching, by the end of 2005, an accreditation scheme covering the marketing profession.

- An active partnership policy allows a close relationship with corporates, universities and business schools, bringing direct benefits (special conditions in applying for training and post-graduation courses and discounts at some service companies, such as travel agencies, hotels) to its members.
- Special rates are available for APPM editions and all APPM events or other events promoted by partner associations and companies.
- A special package is also available for corporate members.
