The European Marketing Confederation (EMC) is pleased to announce the formal accreditation of the marketing competency frameworks of CIM (United Kingdom), MII (Ireland), LIMA (Lithuania), and NIMA (Netherlands).
The Professional Qualifications Committee of the EMC formally reviewed each marketing competency framework against European and Global best practice to ensure the relevance, quality and consistency of each framework to the realities of modern business and marketing. The accreditation process included a detailed evaluation of:
· Comprehensive coverage of essential marketing topics.
· The presence of multiple, clearly defined levels within the framework.
· The clarity of competency and skill definitions.
· The quality of explanation and documentation.
By achieving EMC accreditation, these frameworks demonstrate their value as reliable, high-quality tools for shaping the future of the marketing profession, providing guidance to academia and business for the development of professional marketers and marketing practice.
EMC strongly recommends that companies, educational institutions, and professional bodies adopt one of these accredited frameworks when defining, structuring, and or developing marketing roles and competencies.
“With this accreditation, EMC underlines the importance of clear, comprehensive, and internationally aligned standards in marketing education and practice,” said Ralf Strauss, Chairman of EMC. “These frameworks provide a solid foundation for marketers and organizations to thrive in an increasingly complex and competitive environment.”

What is a marketing competency framework?
A marketing competency framework provides a structured overview of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required at different stages of a marketing career. It acts as a benchmark for consistent, high-quality practice across Europe. By adopting an accredited framework, organisations and professionals ensure clarity, consistency, and excellence in marketing practice.
Who is it for and why does it matter?
The framework is designed for educational institutions, professional bodies, employers, and individual marketers. It guides curriculum design, professional development, and career progression. By aligning with internationally recognised standards, it supports professional growth, nurtures talent, and strengthens trust and credibility across the marketing industry.
